Relationships between journalists and PR professionals are fundamental, but often underestimated, misunderstood, or worse, damaged by clichés, tight schedules, and misplaced expectations.
This awareness led to the creation of PRova a scrivermi (Try writing to me), the column we at Le Royale PR designed to bridge the gap between those who write the news and those who propose it.
What is it about?
PRova a scrivermi (Try writing to me) is an editorial column launched in 2022 and designed as an open space for dialogue: on the one hand, journalists, with their point of view on what works (and doesn’t work) in the pitches they receive every day and in their daily work; on the other, PR professionals looking for concrete ideas to improve their approach, write better, be more effective, and above all, be more respectful of others’ work.
Each episode of the column is structured like a mini-interview: one journalist at a time, seven specific questions and one implied question:
“What can we do to improve our daily relationship?”
The answer is free, honest, never filtered, and always valuable.
Why did we create it?
Because we PR professionals are the first ones who need to question ourselves.
In an age where emails number in the hundreds and reading time is measured in seconds, understanding what journalists really need is the only way to continue building solid, lasting professional relationships.
And let’s face it, it was time to bring some truth to our industry, which is made up of too much theory and too little shared practice.
Try writing to me is also an invitation to listen. A small exercise in humility, but also in professionalism.
Who did we interview?
In the first few months, we collected contributions from some of the most active names on the Italian scene:
- journalists from publications such as Vanity Fair, ANSA, Il Messaggero, Corriere della Sera, StartupItalia, Il Sole 24 Ore, Elle, La Repubblica…
- editors and freelancers who collaborate with international magazines,
- foreign correspondents and young writers in cultural and digital journalism.
Each comment added a piece to the puzzle. Some focused on the effectiveness of the headlines, others on the tone, empathy, relevance, and timeliness. Everyone—and this is the best part—thanked us for the space.
A project that has gone international
In mid-2025, PRova a scrivermi also became an international project, with the arrival of the first responses from journalists and editors of European newspapers.
From Italian to European newsrooms, the format began to circulate outside Italy, demonstrating that the need to improve dialogue between PR and the press knows no boundaries.
The Order of Journalists has spoken about the project, as have several Italian newspapers, recognizing its cultural and professional value.
What now?
Now we have only one goal: to continue.
To make PRova a living library of real advice, a free resource for those working in communications, a new voice for a sector that needs mutual listening.
